Finnish Flexibility Needs

In charge of a project where the team analyses the flexibility needs in the Finnish electricity system in 2030 and 2035. The results are used in the client’s lobbying activities. At the core of this intense-scheduled project is multinational energy market modelling compliant with the European Resource Adequacy Assessment.

R&D project on storage | | 2021 - 2024

Led the entire consortium of an R&D-project including demonstrations, feasibility studies and comprehensive energy market analyses utilising sophisticated energy market modelling and simulation. Budget MEUR 4.1, with over 14 person years of various types of analyses. Link to the project website. In addition to managing the execution, I built the consortium (four organisations) and led the application process for the RDI-grant for the project.

R&D project on P2X | | 2023 - 2024

An R&D project (link) which develops and improves Flexens’ P2X modeling capabilities. This R&D-project is part of a larger co-innovation entity consisting of several companies. I lead Flexens’ part and team in the consortium, including the project planning and proposal.

Techno-economic analyses of large P2X NH3 plant

Managed an analytical project where our team optimised the client’s procurement of electricity from various sources including different renewable-based PPAs, the NordPool day-ahead market as well as the electricity reserve markets. (Link) Also, I negotiated, proposed, and closed the deal leading to the project.

I sold and managed a study to a global technology company about their long-term electricity storage. The showcase was done for the electricity system of Cyprus including analyses of both new energy technologies as well as conventional technologies.

I built and implemented a quality management system for our company from square one. The QMS received the ISO-9001 certification, and our company has kept the certification since.

DH System Modernisation

Carried out a feasibility study with PLEXOS to compare alternatives to modernise a district heating system.

A study about the alternatives to replace burning in the Finnish energy system, both in electricity and district heating. The study compared the potential technologies and their maturity, costs and applicability. The Finnish pdf available here. Large-scale green power-to-X investment project. In the ready plant, RES will be used to produce green hydrogen and e-ammonia. (Link) As the deputy PM, I work closely with the project manager in planning, steering and coordination of the activities.

Green NH3 project in Arctic Conditions

Own asset development project | | 2022 - 2024

Investment project of a P2X plant in arctic conditions, sizing several hundred megawatts in the electrolyser size. The plant will utilise wind power and hydro power to produce hydrogen and e-ammonia.

Smart Port

Consultancy | | 2021

A study done for a major Nordic port. We analysed & modelled the pathways to a smart and electrified port, including demand (onshore power supply & electrical machinery), distribution (required grid infra and possible batteries) as well as supply (electricity generation on site plus demand response possibilities).

Flexens Kokkola

Own asset development project | | 2022 - 2024

Over 350 MW green ammonia P2X-plant. My role focused in the early phases of the project development, being responsible for the 400 MVA electricity connection preparations in 2022 - 2023 as well as district heat system connection in 2022 - 2024.

An outlook of the new energy technologies

A techno-economic outlook on the current state of the advanced energy technologies as well as their state in the Nordic energy markets, considering technical development, policies and future prospects. My responsibilities included the outlook of the energy storage technologies such as lithium-ion, flow and NaS batteries as well as P2G, CAES and phase-change heat storage. I also reviewed the current state of wind and solar power in the Nordics. The study was done for a major utility in Finland.

Our team analysed the effects of different fuel consumption scenarios in Finland up to 2030, regarding policies such as the ban of coal.
